The treasure basket: much more than a sensory game 🧺

There is a stage when everything sparks curiosity. A shiny spoon, the softness of a fabric, the sound of keys, or the cold temperature of metal can become quite a discovery.

And that is precisely where the treasure basket comes from: a simple free-play activity that invites the baby to explore the world through their senses.

What is the treasure basket?

The treasure basket is a sensory exploration activity designed to offer the baby a selection of objects with different materials, shapes, weights, temperatures, sounds, and textures. There are no buttons, lights, or a single way to play. The baby decides which object to pick up, how long to observe it, whether to touch it, shake it, pass it from one hand to the other, or put it down to discover the next one. And that is precisely part of its magic: the adult prepares the environment and the baby directs the experience.

At what age can we offer it?

The ideal moment arrives when the baby can sit up with some stability and has their hands free to explore. From then on, we can place the basket within their reach and allow them to discover its contents calmly, always under adult supervision. We don't need to teach them what to do with each object. We can be nearby, accompany them, and observe. Because when we give them time and space, they often surprise us with everything they are capable of discovering on their own.

What can be found inside?

One of the most beautiful characteristics of the treasure basket is precisely its variety.

At Naliblu, we wanted to gather elements from different material families:
🌿 Natural, which brings the baby closer to different textures and sensations.
🪵 Wood, warm, pleasant, and with various shapes.
✨ Metal, which provides shine, weight, sounds, and a completely different thermal sensation.
🌈 Translucent elements, which invite them to observe light, colours, and transparencies.
🤍 Fabrics, soft, light, and full of movement possibilities.
🎶 Sound elements, which allow them to discover what happens when moving, shaking, or gently tapping each object.

Each element offers a different experience and turns the basket into a small invitation to investigate.

What does it foster?

While it seems like they are just playing, the baby is setting in motion a great deal of learning. They explore with their hands, coordinate their gaze and movement, compare objects, discover cause-and-effect relationships, and begin to make their own decisions. Furthermore, since it is an open-ended activity, each baby can relate to the materials in their own way and at their own pace, without the need to seek a specific result.

At Naliblu, we deeply believe in that type of play: simple, free, and respectful of each child's timing. Because sometimes, you don't need big toys to trigger big discoveries. Just a basket, carefully chosen objects, and a great desire to explore. 🤍
